Artist Ethan Rose (Portland, OR) works with sound, sculpture, and installation. The current focus of his work is in the reclamation and manipulation of vintage sounds and instrumentation. The environments he creates become open forums for intentionality, of origins and their significance, and for creative process. On a micro-level, his interventions set the stage for private remembrances.

Movements was conceived as a site-specific sound installation and exhibited by the Portland Institute of Contemporary Art's TBA Festival 2009. Hundreds of wall-mounted music boxes were powered electrically, and were dependent on the room's dimensions for its specific sonic resonance. In this case, Mr. Rose has created Movements Edition, an iteration that instead depends on kinetic power.
